Dieu Donné is pleased to announce a new edition by J. Fiber, the collaborative identity of artists James Esber and Jane Fine. Forced Entry is an edition of 100 variable artworks in handmade paper. The imagery of J. Fiber crawls with violent and sexual energy, buffered by capricious drips, flowers, and doodles. The energy of the work comes from the engagement of masculine and feminine themes, and the confrontation that may arise in an interactive, shared drawing process. Forced Entry prominently features an invading male figure composed of tangles of linework and fields of color, reflecting the unique nature and hand of the two individual artists. Their work combines to form a unified whole, strengthened by the collaborative process of the team, and the cooperative nature of working at Dieu Donné.

An initial base sheet of blue, green, and orange was created using pigmented cotton pulp; a shaped deckle was dipped twice into the green and mauve pulp, and couched onto a blue sheet. Stenciled linen pulp paint was applied to the patterned base sheet using hand-cut mylar stencils, and the completed piece was pressed and dried. Lastly, a two color separation of black and burnt sienna was screenprinted by Haven Press Studio.

About the Artist

J. Fiber is a collaborative drawing project of artists Jane Fine and James Esber, a married couple, both painters represented by Pierogi, who have lived and worked in Williamsburg since 1986. Although the artists occasionally made drawings together during the first two decades of their relationship, J. Fiber was not hatched as a serious project until 2007. The first show of J. Fiber drawings, titled World War Me, was at Pierogi in March of 2008. Since that time drawings by J. Fiber have been included in several group shows in Brooklyn as well as in a show at Daniel Weinberg Gallery in Los Angeles and Art on Paper at The Weatherspoon Gallery in North Carolina. In 2009 J. Fiber was commissioned by Dieu Donné Papermill to produce a print for their Editions Club.
