Lyle Starr
All Fours, 2005
Pigmented linen on flax base sheet
14 x 16 inches

Dieu Donné is pleased to announce a new edition by Lyle Starr. All Fours is an edition of 75 variable artworks in handmade paper.

Starr chose ten different colors and ten different single images of men and women on “all fours.” Multiplying the two lists so that each color contains a complete set of ten images, he created the 100 unique pieces that comprise this edition (i.e., edition of 75, artist’s proofs, Dieu Donné proofs, and public collections proofs).

About the Artist

Lyle Starr is an American artist who lives and works in New York. Born in Oneida, NY in 1962, he has never returned. He grew up in the American West and lived for a while in a trailer home near a uranium mine. His family moved around a lot and he attended seven different schools. He enjoyed leather working and wood burning at 4H Club in New Mexico but was less talented at boxing and football. He went to the University of Colorado in Boulder where he met filmmaker Stan Brakhage and beat writer Allen Ginsberg. Then he moved to Washington, DC and worked at NASA Headquarters. His first solo exhibition was in New York in 1999. His painting, "DEEP THIRD" was acquired by the Guggenheim Museum in 2007 and some of his "LICK" drawings are in MoMA's Collection.
