Fellowships

Fellowships at Dieu Donné

Dieu Donné currently offers two fellowship programs: the Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellowship and the West Bay View Foundation Fellowship. These fellowships support research, experimentation, and innovation in the field of papermaking. Open to experienced visual artists residing in the U.S., the fellowships provide opportunities to expand artistic practice by gaining practical experience working in a professional hand papermaking studio that focuses on collaboration.

For details on each fellowship, including application cycles and requirements, see below.

Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellowship

The Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellowship is awarded annually to a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, person of color) or underrepresented printmaking postgraduate or professional printer. Through research and experimentation, the fellow will develop custom papers for different printing methods and explore creative techniques in the papermaking process to enhance imagery.

This fellowship is available by nomination only. Candidates must be nominated by professional printers or graduate school faculty.

Kenneth Tyler and Dieu Donné are honored to have established this Fellowship in memory of Marabeth Cohen-Tyler.

2026 FELLOWship recipient - ANDREW BETANCOURT

Andrew Betancourt is the 2026 Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellow. His eight-month fellowship began in January, 2026.

Andrew G.H. Betancourt is a Chicano artist and fine art editions printmaker born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He earned his BFA in Printmaking and Ceramics graduating with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso, where he also worked as a studio and teaching assistant in printmaking under professor and mentor, Kim Bauer. He was the recipient of the Manuel Acosta Memorial Art Scholarship and the Carl and Margaret Jackson Fellowship, and was twice awarded Best Print at the Rubin Center of Visual Arts’ annual juried student art exhibition.

Following his undergraduate studies, Andrew apprenticed under Master Printer, Brian Shure at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado, completing a three-plus year apprenticeship with Anderson Ranch Editions. Through this experience, he developed a solid technical foundation and collaborative approach to printmaking, printing high-quality editions for artists including Meleko Mokgosi, Elliott Hundley, Steve Locke, Elinor Carucci, and Felipe Baeza.

Beyond his work in editions, Andrew has spent multiple summers assisting and mentoring students across a wide range of printmaking processes, fostering an inclusive studio environment. This engagement with fellow artists and educators has deepened his confidence as a technician and has pushed his creative spirit as he works fluidly across the many languages of printmaking. His artistic practice was further enriched through participation in the printmaking residency at Officina Stamperia del Notaio in Tusa, Italy during October of 2025. Website

WEST BAY VIEW FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP

Established in 2018, the West Bay View Foundation Fellowship is an immersive, full-time, six-month studio position for a visual artist with papermaking experience and a strong desire to use handmade paper as an art form. Fellows work alongside Dieu Donné master papermakers, gaining practical experience working in a professional papermaking studio that focuses on artistic collaboration.

This fellowship provides mentorship from our studio directors, Amy Jacobs and Tatiana Ginsberg, a stipend to support transportation and living expenses in NYC for the six months of the fellowship, and a week in the professional studio with one of the studio directors to realize a larger or more complex project than could be achieved alone.
