B. Wurtz: Works in Handmade Paper, 2013-2015

Dieu Donné is pleased to present an exhibition of new works in handmade paper byB. Wurtz created in the studio during the artist’s Lab Grant Program residency. The artist's unique two-and-three-dimensional works will be on view in the Dieu Donné gallery from April 30 to June 6, 2015. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, April 30 from 6-8pm and the artist will be present. A full color Lab Grant Publication will accompany the exhibition featuring an essay by art critic and historian Jan Avgikos.

There is so much we are excited about this spring, and our artists-in-residence are keeping us busy in and out of the studio! First up is B. Wurtz, whose solo Lab Grant residency exhibition opens next Thursday evening, April 30, from 6-8PM. In her essay, Lab Grant publication author Jan Avgikos states:
 

What a difference the hand-made paper makes. It expands the affective dimensions of B. Wurtz’s art and tweaks it in ways that might be altogether new.

March started off with the excitement of Armory Arts Week, and we were thrilled to see so many Dieu Donné artists represented at all of the fairs. Many of our previous artists-in-residence opened solo exhibitions or were featured in galleries around the city, including Dawn Clements at Pierogi Gallery, Molly Smith at Kate Werble Gallery, and Lael Marshall at The Curator Gallery. We also are pleased to have works from our studios included in the group show On/Of/About/Paper at dm contemporary, on view by appointment through April 18.

Melvin Edwards, Works in Handmade Paper

Dieu Donné is pleased to present an exhibition of works in handmade paper by renown American sculptor Melvin Edwards.  The artworks on view were predominantly created in 2000 during the artist’s residency as the inaugural Lab Grant Program artist. Edwards has regularly returned to work in the Dieu Donné studio, continuing to create works in handmade paper as part of his practice. This exhibition marks the 14th anniversary of his last solo exhibition at Dieu Donné, Agua y Acero en Papel (Water and Steel in Paper) for which there is a publication available as a PDF on request.
