We offer tailored tours for students at university, high school, and middle school grade levels, with an emphasis on serving undergraduate and graduate level students of fine arts and art history.

Due to limited studio capacity, we are not currently offering private papermaking workshops to school groups.

Dieu Donné offers a variety of unique hands-on educational opportunities for adults and children that can be held on-site in our studio or at off-site locations. Educational programs are adaptable for various age groups and circumstances, including school field trips, professional development, community organizations, and more.  

Participants learn about the papermaking process—from the history of papermaking to the role handmade paper plays in the contemporary arts—and experiment with creative techniques to create original works of art. Our tactile programs, taught by working artists and educators, provide access to a rare and venerable artistic medium, and give participants an opportunity to experience a complete cycle of creation, from pulp to final project. Programs range from introductory classes to follow-up workshops in specialized techniques.

FAQs

How much does a tour cost?
Our prices range from $500—$1,000. Sessions include an introductory talk and tour of our facilities and viewing artwork and didactics from our collection and archive. We offer papermaking demonstrations only on a limited basis. We do not currently offer private hands-on papermaking workshops for school groups.

Do you offer financial aid?
We work to secure funding to offer to subsidies to schools in economic need. While not always available, we try to accommodate school budgets and offer discounted rates. Please include your available budget in your tour inquiry.

How many students or participants can I bring?
10-15 visitors is ideal, but we can accommodate up to 26 guests.

How many chaperones should I have?
We ask that school groups bring no more than four chaperones. 

How do I cancel or reschedule my tour/workshop?
Please contact us at least two weeks before your scheduled date. 

What should I do to prepare for my tour/workshop?
Wear shoes that can get wet!
