Exhibitions & Programming
Your membership will help provide the support needed for our expanded exhibitions and programming. 2008 exhibitions included an exhibition of collaborative work in handmade paper by the late artist Alan Shields; solo exhibitions of work by Kate Shepherd, Mel Kendrick, and Jon Kessler, surveying each artist’s Lab Grant residency at Dieu Donné; Opportunity as Community, in which current and former residency artists selected artists to create work on our paper; and Workspace Program 2008, an exhibition of work in handmade paper by emerging New York State artists. Talks with the artists and curators, as well as publications are all made available in part through membership support.

The Archive
More than thirty years of work with artists like Chuck Close, Mona Hatoum, William Kentridge, Glenn Ligon, Juan Sánchez, Kiki Smith, Richard Tuttle, and hundreds of others are preserved in our archive. This includes finished works, studies, state proofs, and “didactic” materials used during the creation of the work. Extensive text-based and visual documentation of the innovative papermaking techniques developed by Susan Gosin and Paul Wong over the past thirty-two years are also preserved. Patrons of Dieu Donné ensure the cultivation of this vital resource for artists, curators, papermakers, students, and art historians.

Lab Grant Program
Our sponsors help support the Lab Grant Program, Publication and Exhibition at Dieu Donné. This program provides two mid-career artists twelve days over one year in our studio with full assistance from the artistic staff, exploring the potential of the hand papermaking process. Past Lab Grant artists include Polly Apfelbaum, Robert Cottingham, E. V. Day, Tony Fitzpatrick, Arturo Herrera, Mel Kendrick, Jon Kessler, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Kate Shepherd, Jessica Stockholder, and Do-ho Suh.

Workspace Program
Membership dues allow emerging artists create new work in our studios. Three New York State emerging artists are selected by rotating jury for a seven day studio residency over one year, collaborating with our studio staff. We define emerging artist as an artist that is "stylistically evolved, but not yet professionally recognized." Current Workspace artists are Elana Herzog, Sarah Kabot, Alyssa Pheobus, Zoë Sheehan Saldaña, Chuck Webster, and Shirley Wegner. Past Workspace artists include Sonya Blesofsky, A.J. Bocchino, Brad Brown, Rachel Foullon, Kirsten Hassenfeld, Peter Simensky, Allyson Strafella, Mary Temple, and Vargas-Suarez Universal.
